[Korea.net] May is the perfect month of the year for a getaway, and as April ends the month is drawing near.

Around this time of year, a set of travel packages and discounts is awaiting spring adventurers during the so-called 2016 Spring Travel Week, a domestic tourism promotion campaign that will run from May 1 to 14.

The two-week promotional campaign will see more than 12,000 businesses across the nation -- whether they be tourist spots, accommodations or restaurants -- offer tourists a wide range of discounts on their services, a move to help reduce, to some degree, the pressure on travelers’ wallets. The campaign is jointly led by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).
Gyeongbokgung Palace, one of Seoul’s must-visit tourist sites, allows visitors in at half price during the 2016 Spring Travel Week in May.
The four Joseon palaces -- Gyeongbokgung, Deoksugung, Changdeokgung and Changgyeonggung palaces -- the Jongmyo Shrine, the National Institute of Ecology, N Seoul Tower, Lotte World and Seoul Land will all offer up to 60 percent off on their entrance fees. Accommodations, too, including Goodstay hotels that have been endorsed by the KTO, Hanwha hotels and Daemyung hotels will provide up to 70 percent off on various room options.

Outside Seoul in other regions across the nation, there are a range of travel packages available, as well. For example, the “Daegu is Beautiful” package will bring travelers to famous filming locations for popular soap operas, local well-known industrial sites and to famous restaurants. The “Travel to Ulsan, a Future City” package gives adventurers a tour around the industrial plants and around the city as a whole, and gives them some discounts on entry fees at some tourist sites.
The Paldo Jangteo Tourist Train will hit the nation's railroads, zipping travelers to Muju, Jecheon and Tongyeong, all of which have been declared ‘Tourism Cities of 2016.’ The Tongyeong Jungang Market in Tongyeong is famous for its fresh seafood.
The Paldo Jangteo Tourist Train is designed to take travelers to traditional markets in provinces across the nation and will start a new service on May 1 running to Muju in Jeollabuk-do Province, Jecheon in Chungcheongbuk-do Province and to Tongyeong in Gyeongsangnam-do Province. These three cities have been declared “Tourism Cities of 2016.”

Hopping on board, passengers will soon discover new sites at the Muju Firefly Market, the Hanmaeum Market in Jecheon and at the Samcheonpo Younggung Fish Market in Tongyeong.
Hwaeomsa Temple in Jeollanam-do Province, founded in 544 by the Indian monk Ven. Yeongi, will allow visitors to spend the night for KRW 10,000 during the 2016 Spring Travel Week.
Besides the Paldo Jangteo Tourist Train, there will also be the "Happy Train for KRW 10,000" that will add delight to your trip. As its name literally indicates, tickets are available for only KRW 10,000, giving people a chance to enjoy at an affordable price a day’s trip to more than 10 destinations across the country, including Daejeon, Daegu, Wonju, Jeongseon and Taebaek in Gangwon-do Province.

Such KRW 10,000 delights can be found at temples, too. A total of 76 temples nationwide will allow people to spend the night there for only KRW 10,000. The participating temples include Jogyesa Temple in Seoul, Baekdamsa Temple in Gangwon-do Province, Banyasa Temple in Chungcheongbuk-do Province, Bulguksa Temple in Gyeongsangbuk-do and Hwaeomsa Temple in Jeollanam-do Province, just to name a few. A stay at any of these temples can be booked in advance at the official website for the 2016 Spring Travel Week, below.
